Common questions
What is my IP address?
Your public IP address is the number your internet provider assigns to your connection. It is shown at the top of this page. Every website, mail server and online game you connect to can see it, because it is the return address your traffic travels back to.
What is NetSight?
NetSight is a free set of network lookup tools that runs in the browser: it shows your own public IP address and looks up any IP, hostname or URL. Every report combines geolocation, DNS records, WHOIS, reverse DNS, open ports and reputation data from several sources at once. There are no accounts, no ads, and queries are not tied to a profile.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 addresses look like 192.0.2.14 and are running out, which is why providers increasingly hand out IPv6 addresses such as 2001:db8::7334. Most connections today support both. Which one you get depends on your provider and your router, and the address shown above is the one this site actually received your request from.
Why does my IP address keep changing?
Most home connections get a dynamic address that changes when the router reconnects, often once a day or after a restart. Mobile networks change it even more frequently. A fixed address usually costs extra and is mainly used for servers and remote access.
Does my IP address reveal my exact location?
No. It points to the area your provider routes the connection through, typically a city or region, and can be far off. It does not reveal your street address. Anyone using a VPN or mobile network will often see a location in a different city entirely.
Is NetSight free?
Yes. All tools are free for personal and non-commercial use. The public API has generous rate limits without any signup.
Do you log queries or IPs?
We don't sell data or attach identifiers to queries. Short-term caching stores public lookup answers to reduce load on upstream providers.
Where does the data come from?
NetSight aggregates multiple external sources - IP geolocation, abuse reputation, certificate transparency and threat intelligence - and merges them into a single unified report. We also operate our own honeypot infrastructure: a dedicated network of decoy services (SSH, VNC, HTTP, Modbus, S7) that records unsolicited connection attempts. The resulting database of attacker IPs feeds directly into the reputation signals shown in our IP lookup, and a curated subset is published as a free public blocklist.
